‘PARENTING’ THE MOST IMPORTANT JOB YOU WILL EVER HAVE

The bad news is none of us will be perfect parents this year, or next year or the one after – the good news is we don’t have to be – kids don’t want or need perfection from parents.  What they might need is:

A PARENT WHO ACCEPTS THEM WITH ALL THEIR IMPERFECTIONS

A PARENT WHO CAN SAY SORRY WHEN THEY ARE WRONG

A PARENT WHO WILL MAKE THE EFFORT TO KEEP COMMUNICATION OPEN (NO MATTER HOW HARD IT CAN BE AT TIMES!)

A PARENT WHO WILL TRUST THEM UNTIL THEY GIVE THEM A REASON NOT TO BE TRUSTED

A PARENT WHO TRIES TO STAY PATIENT EVEN WHEN ALL ELSE IS PUSHING TO EXPLODE

A PARENT WHO WILL GIVE THEM ‘TIME’ – PROBABLY THE MOST UNDERESTIMATED QUALITY ANY PARENT CAN GIVE.

Never underestimate the importance of your role as a parent, you will form your child’s character by your words and actions – they notice the small stuff – when you help out a friend, when you make them a cup of tea, when you put a hot water bottle in their bed, when you read them a bedtime story, when you listen to someone who needs you, when you make someone smile,  all we can ever be is:

“THE BEST PARENT WE CAN BE”
